Major arrests

The PSP police arrested 29 foreigners in March, suspected of being part of a crime ring dedicated to home burglaries across Portugal and the Algarve.

The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation known as Operação Anzol.

The majority of suspects are women and children, who the police say would take advantage of unlocked doors, removing valuable items that could easily be taken, such as jewellery.

During the operation, the PSP confiscated 20 vehicles, around one kilogram of gold, jewels and diamonds, 36,000 euros in cash, a hand gun and several false identity documents, among other items.
