The process of passing some of the more controversial measures of the government’s ‘Mais Habitação’ programme has moved a few inches forwards: cabinet office minister Mariana Vieira da Silva has said the various draft laws will be ‘laid before parliament’ this week, “then it is up to the conference of (parliamentary party) leaders to schedule the debate on the bills”. Due to the government’s absolutel majority it is likely that the draft laws will be approved, albeit President Marcelo is likely to send them to the Constitutional Court for a decision on their legality.
