Madeleine McCann was three years old when she went missing from Praia da Luz on May 3, 2007. To this day, there is no certainty what happened to her.

Madeleine McCann detectives “want to return to Portugal”

British media has been peppered with new ‘Madeleine stories’ this week suggesting German police want to return to Portugal to follow-up on “excellent” leads backing their theory that a jailed pedophile could have been the three year old’s killer.

But, say the stories, “it is feared” that the visit could be “blocked by Portuguese police” who don’t think the German’s suspect is guilty of involvement in the 13-year-old mystery.

Said the Mirror on Saturday, it would be “deeply embarrassing” for Portuguese authorities if the trip then provided damning evidence proving the German were right”.

The German’s ‘conviction’ that career criminal Christian Brückner is responsible for Madeleine’s abduction from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in May 2007 was announced in a media flurry in June (click here).

At the time, numerous sources unconnected to the German police said they believed Brückner was being used as a very convenient scapegoat (click here).
