Madeira’s Savoy Palace opens on March 27

Portugal’s President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will open a new five-star hotel on the island of Madeira on March 27.

The luxury five-star Savoy Palace, which was built from scratch, comprises the hotel and a number of residences. The project is from the Madeira Group AFA owned by entrepreneur José Avelino Farinha with an architectural project by Saraiva + Associados and RH + Arquitectos, with interior design by Madeira designer Nini Andrade e Silva.

The building has 17 floors, 309 rooms and 43 suites, with 14 pool suites and two presidential suites with their own pool, a 3000sqm spa, six swimming pools (including two infinity pools on the roof), eight restaurants and bars and a 1,000 person capacity conference hall.

The new Savoy Palace hotel opened its door to guests in July 2019 in a ‘soft opening’. The project was widely tipped to win the Portuguese Real Estate Oscars held recently but was pipped to the post by The One Palácio da Anunciada in Lisbon.
