Madeira pushes government to share responsibility for fire-fighting air support

Madeira’s legislative assembly has passed a motion calling on the Portuguese government to promote a new pilot-project over the use of air support for firefighting in Madeira and Azores. Said president of the parliamentary commission for health and social affairs, Vânia Jesus, it is time for the State to “demystify and clarify” the issue by having a share in it. Wildfires caused €157 million in damages in Madeira this summer.
