Madeira politician in induced coma

Jacinto Serrão, a Member of Parliament for the Socialist Party (PS) elected by Madeira, is in an induced coma as his life hangs in the balance following a violent crash while driving his motorbike.

A source of the political party said that the accident happened Monday night (November 18) when an oncoming car missed a red light and collided with Serrão’s motorbike.

The 44-year-old former Physics teacher, was operated on several times during the night of the accident and was set for another surgery on Tuesday.

PS Madeira is in constant contact with Serrão’s wife but information is still scarce.

According to Lusa news agency, the prognosis is “very reserved”.
