A Portuguese teacher at a school in New Jersey, US, is calling on fans of international football star Cristiano Ronaldo to sign a petition requesting that Madame Tussauds Museum in New York features a wax figure of the player.
Raquel Rosa, a Portuguese teacher at Escola Lusitania, a small Portuguese institution located in the city of Long Branch, New Jersey, said Cristiano Ronaldo is “arguably the world’s most talented soccer player at present” and, during a recent visit to the museum with her students, they could not help but notice that the Portuguese player was missing among the “many renowned world figures”.
In an email to the Algarve Resident this week, Raquel Rosa, said: “Cristiano Ronaldo currently has more than 53 million followers on Facebook. More than Michael Jordan, David Beckham and even Justin Bieber.”
Madame Tussauds has installed a Cristiano Ronaldo figure at its London and Berlin branches. However, she believes Madame Tussauds-NYC would benefit greatly from a Cristiano Ronaldo wax figure. “Not only do millions of tourists from all over the world travel to Manhattan on a yearly basis, Ronaldo’s many fans, who are spread out throughout North and South America, would appreciate a figure located at a more proximal branch,” she said.
The teacher and her eighth grade students have thus created a petition on Facebook with the ultimate goal of getting Cristiano Ronaldo to the New York City museum.
“In the past three weeks, we have been able to gain over 6,000 supporters that liked our page and the number increases hourly,” she said.
