A day of fundraising for cancer support is being organised at Parque da Floresta Bowls Club in Budens on Friday September 27, starting at 10.30am.
The event will aim to raise funds to pay for a Macmillan nurse for a month in tribute to a popular member of the bowls club. Ron Lewis was visiting family in the UK at Christmas when he was diagnosed and unfortunately never returned to his home in Salema.
Now members of the club are organising a charity event in his memory as part of Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning campaign. There will be an all-day bowling competition and free bowls lessons for anyone who would like to try the sport.
Coffee and cakes will be on offer all day and cake donations are most appreciated, say organisers.
Lunch is being provided by The Spice Cottage in Burgau, Jakes in Luz, and Lynne and George who run the club.
There will be cakes for sale, a tombola and a grand prize draw with some of the best donations to be auctioned.
Founded in 1911 by Douglas Macmillan, Macmillan Cancer Support has grown to become the largest cancer care and support charity in the UK.
