Macabre find on banks of Tejo: eight dead puppies

Firefighters had a dismal job last Sunday after a passer-by spotted eight dead puppies on the bank of the Tejo river near Alhandra (Vila Franca de Xira). The men had to collect the dead animals and deliver them to the local pound. Said a source, they were possibly only two days old, one still had its umbilical cord attached. The bodies were caught in thick mud on the river’s bank.
