Conrad Hotels Resorts, the global luxury brand from Hilton Worldwide, has announced that its new Algarve project, the Palácio da Quinta Hotel in Quinta do Lago, is to open in 2011.
The announcement came as part of global expansion news from the company, which will see a further 14 hotels opening in Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
The 158-room luxury resort will be the first Conrad Hotel in Portugal and is to include two restaurants, a sports bar and pool facilities in addition to a treatment and fitness centre.
Football manager José Mourinho is famously backing the project, which he described as being “absolutely fantastic” while on a site visit to the resort in 2008.
The hotel has been deemed to be a project of national importance (PIN) and is set in nearly 61,000 square metres of land in Quinta do Lago and represents an investment of 88 million Euros.
The development was due to have been completed in 2009 but delays in building first pushed back the project to a 2010 deadline and now to 2011.
“The expansion of Conrad Hotels & Resorts further into our growing markets are strategic milestones for us,” said John T. A. Vanderslice, global head of luxury and lifestyle brands, Hilton Worldwide.
“Offering a world of style, service and connection, Conrad Hotels & Resorts are designed for today’s affluent traveller.”
Ian Carter, president, global operations and development, Hilton Worldwide said: “We are strategically growing the Conrad brand by adding new-build hotels and resorts and smartly converting existing hotels to the brand. These forthcoming hotels will share the Conrad spirit of individuality and commitment to service and will further advance the brand’s reach in the world’s premier locations and most sought-after resort destinations.”
