COMMEMORATIONS FOR World Forest Day took place at Parque Ambiental de Vilamoura recently, involving more than 50 schoolchildren. Pupils aged between 10 and 12 enjoyed various educational activities and games related to the local flora, and took part in a symbolic plantation of trees. To commemorate the special day, two tree species were also offered to local schools, with the aim of teaching young people to respect the environment.
Parque Ambiental de Vilamoura is a green zone covering an area of more than 200 hectares, owned by real estate company Lusort. It is part of the Vilamoura XXI project that encompasses a total area of 900 hectares, including residential, commercial and touristic areas, as well as hotels, a sports centre and five golf courses. The project has been recognised for its environmental harmony, allowing Vilamoura to renew its certification as a “Green Globe” destination.
As well as this, Vilamoura Marina, which currently offers space for around 1,000 moorings, is proud to be one of the first marinas in the world to receive the ISO 14001 environmental certificate, thanks to its efforts to preserve the environment. In addition, the marina also boasts the European Blue Flag and the ISO 9001 quality certificate.
