MORE THAN 20 people from 10 different Algarve companies recently attended the ‘Meet for Lunch, Business Opportunities’ event organised in the Raj restaurant at the Hotel Garbe. After a curry lunch, Dr. Pedro Sousa, Vice President of Algarve DECO, the consumer rights organisation, gave a talk about his company and what they can offer to consumers.
He reminded guests that Deco was created in 1974 and is currently one of the biggest non-profitable associations in Portugal. “People are only just becoming aware of their rights as consumers. Our objective is to defend consumers and we have the right to represent them in court if necessary,” Sousa explained.
He went on to give the example of a recent court action that the organisation brought against Portugal Telecom. PT was forced to offer free calls every Sunday until June 13 after losing the case. After answering the public’s questions, Dr. Sousa explained that anyone wanting to become a member of Deco can do so by e-mailing them at [email protected] or sending a letter to Deco, Rua Resequinho, número 12, 8000 Faro.
