Lunchtime debate on waterfront property law

A lunchtime debate designed to shed light on the waterfront property law controversy which blew up in the national media last year will be taking place at Hotel Tivoli Victoria, in Vilamoura, on February 27.
The law, which dates back to 1864, threatens the transfer of ownership of waterfront properties to the Portuguese State unless it can be proven in court that the land has been in private hands for at least 150 years.
Property owners originally had until January 1 this year to present their proof, but the government has since pushed back the deadline to July 1, allowing more time for the complex legislation to be reviewed and understood.
Thus, the Portuguese Tourism Confederation has organised this debate to help people over the hurdles.
Lawyer and land law expert Sofia Galvão will be the main speaker. The former university professor has an impressive background, having already been Secretary of State for Public Administration, and involved in the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. She has also published numerous books on diverse subjects, many of which focus on land management, urbanism and the sea. She is currently working on the revision of Portuguese laws concerning land management.
The event, scheduled to begin at 12.15pm, starts with a welcome drink, with lunch at 1pm followed by the debate until 3.30pm.
Participation is limited, so reservations are advisable. These require prepayment of €18 to be transferred to NIB number: 0033 0000 00142038944 05.
Personal details including name, address, and NIF (tax identification number) should also be submitted via email.
