A German father of two had an incredibly lucky escape when he rescued his two young daughters from dangerous currents on Bordeira beach near Aljezur last week, but then got swept into the sea himself. The 56-year-old almost drowned and had to be treated for hypothermia at Portimão Hospital. “A surfer tried to help him but without success,” port captain Carvalho Pinto told Correio da Manhã. Happily, the man managed to get to shore “by his own means”.
