Low key Portimonense

Portimonense finally had their official presentation earlier this week with few changes in relation to the team that ended last season.

‘Interim’ coach José Augusto (pictured) has been given the job of overseeing the upcoming campaign on a permanent basis and will continue to rely on established first-team players such as Ricardo Pessoa, Ivo Nicolau, Pires and Zambujo.

The squad has been boosted by the arrival of six new faces of which only Marítimo B returnee André Ferreira is a known quantity. The by-now-customary Brazilian intake features goalkeeper Leonardo, defender Joabson, midfielder Marcel and forward Alfredo while 20-year-old England-born Chace Jacquart is an interesting recruit from AFC Wimbledon.

To date, Portimonense only have two pre-season friendlies against Louletano scheduled later this month before the 2015/16 season proper gets under way with a trip to Porto B on August 8.

Highlights until the Christmas break include Farense away on September 30 and the home clash with Olhanense on November 29. SKIP BANDELE
