The Third Division side from the central Algarve has undergone a major makeover since coach Amílcar Fonseca left at the end of last season due to a lack of perspective.
Jorge Portela and Luís Manuel were colleagues at Farense in their playing days. They jointly took charge of Operário on the Azores and now they have taken up the reins in Loulé. Their stated aim is to take the team into the professional ranks of the Liga da Honra. To achieve this they have brought with them no less than eight promising young players from the far-flung Atlantic atoll. To lend experience to the new look side, Renato (Boavista), Rietberg (Den Bosch, Holland) and Robbemond (De Graafschap, Holland) are currently undergoing trials. It will no doubt be interesting to follow their progress when hostilities resume later this month.
