LOULÉ CÂMARA president, Seruca Emídio, is concerned about security in the areas of Vilamoura and Quarteira, especially at night, following complaints from residents and visitors.
The Câmara has already requested for a special licence to install a CCTV system in the streets of both locations.
Loulé Mayor spoke to the daily newspaper Correio da Manhã about this after attending the funeral of António José Sacadas, 52, who died on February 5, during Carnival celebrations, as result of a dispute with a bouncer at a Vilamoura bar, where he was hit on the head with a baseball bat which led to his death.
The funeral was attended by hundreds of residents who protested against the rise in violent crime in the area.
Seruca Emídio stated that he had already sent a letter to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in order for the surveillance programme to be implemented as soon as possible.
