Loulé stages top award ceremony

Loulé, which this year is the European City of Sport, hosted the prestigious Portuguese Professional Football League award ceremony and league cup draw at the Cine-Teatro Municipal de Loulé last Saturday.

Jonas, who helped inspire Benfica to the Primeira Liga title with 20 goals in 27 appearances, received the ‘Best Player of the Season’ trophy whilst Nani (Sporting Lisbon) took the ‘Goal of the Season’ accolade after his wonder strike against Gil Vicente back in February.

The Portuguese international, who was on loan at Sporting from Manchester United, has recently been transferred to Turkish side Fenerbahçe for €6 million.

The new Sporting Lisbon manager Jorge Jesus received the ‘Manager of the Year’ award after steering Benfica to the league title.

The draw was then made for the Taça da Liga (League Cup) which gave Olhanense a tough away tie at relegated Penafiel on August 2. Both Farense and Portimonense received home advantage against Sp.Covilhã and Aves respectively. If Olhanense and Portimonense should win their games they will meet each other in the second phase.
