Lions Clube de Loulé welcomed the Lions Governor for Portugal Américo Marques and the First Vice -Governor Carlos Manito to a lunch at Restaurant Henrique Leis in Almancil on March 7.
Speaking to a full house, LC de Loulé’s President Ulla de Jager welcomed all in a short opening speech, after which she invited the Governor, the First Vice-Governor, DG Carlos Nunes and LC Portimão’s President Fernando Raposa for the traditional flag ceremony.
Ulla de Jager gave a summary of the projects and activities her Club is engaged in for their ongoing Lions year. She concluded that the Club, gradually growing in membership, is making a difference for many in the community.
In his speech, the Governor thanked the Lions Clube de Loulé for its performance and, as a result, awarded it the “Club Excellence” distinction.
Two long-standing member-founders of LC de Loulé, Kirsten Pedersen and Conceição Machado, received a memorial pin in recognition of 27 years of membership.
The Lions Governor for Portugal’s district also announced four main objectives for this Lions Year: supporting the visually impaired; financing the planting of trees in the Tapada de Mafra; supporting young students to obtain a good education; and providing essential food items to impoverished families.
