Loulé hosts dance month

Loulé Câmara will stage a number of evenings under the forthcoming dance month (Mês da Dança), in order to mark the 75th anniversary of the Cine-Teatro Louletano. On April 8 at 9.30pm, the theatre will host one of the most famous names in Portuguese dance, Benvindo Fonseca, formally the main dancer of the Gulbenkian Ballet. Fonseca, with his recently formed Lisbon Contemporary Ballet Company, will stage various works, including A Night with Ella, celebrating the life of jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald, and Makeba, a celebration of the children of Mozambique. On April 16 at 9.30pm, the Sintra Dance Company will stage Amo-te, choreographed by Lucília Baleixo, with music based on the themes of Xutos e Pontapés, the well-known Portuguese rock band. To close the dance month, on April 30, the company Vortex Dance will present works such as The Sleeping Buddha and The Lost King.
