Preparations are underway for the largest, brightest and most popular Carnival parade in the region, which will again be in Loulé on February 18, 19 and 21.
The centre of the city will be closed to allow revellers to enjoy the celebrations along the Avenida José da Costa Mealha avenue.
A change in the programme has been announced this year by Loulé Câmara, which will see the main parade taking to the avenue on the Saturday, instead of Monday as in previous years, as well as on the Sunday and Tuesday.
Loulé, which this year is marking the 106th anniversary of its Carnival, is again expected to receive thousands of revellers who are attracted by the large colourful parades and party atmosphere during this time of the year.
The celebrations will see 15 floats in the parade decorated under the theme ‘Swap the Crisis for Loulé Carnival’.
Again taking a tongue-in-cheek look at society, the economic crisis is high on the entertainment agenda, with plenty of political satire featuring the likes of Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy, German and French leaders respectively, and the Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho.
Entry to the closed Loulé carnival costs €2 per person.
