Agreement || World Animal Day (October 4) saw Loulé council come to the aid of three animal associations, signing a new protocol that includes an unspecified bonus of financial support.
From now on, the borough will work closely with Associação Coração100Dono, Associação de Defesa de Animais Carenciados e Necessitados de Rua and Associação AID Associação Protetora dos Animais – creating special feeding areas for animals throughout the municipality, promoting awareness campaigns in schools, highlighting the importance of sterilisation and even sharing some of the management of municipal kennels.
Forward-thinking mayor Vítor Aleixo said: “We are willing to provide even more means to help these associations” but this of course depends on money available.
“We want to contribute to a new form of humanism that centres itself not only on man but also on all other living things, as animals are also our companions,” Aleixo explained.
His words will come as a breath of fresh air to animal associations that work tirelessly to improve the lot of the Algarve’s abandoned and mistreated animals.
