WORLD FOREST Day (March 21) was celebrated in Loulé with various activities organised to raise awareness of the importance of environmental protection.
Loulé Câmara enlisted the help of local schoolchildren to plant new trees at the Centro Ambiental da Pena. Operating out of the old primary school of the village of Pena in Salir, since 1992, this environmental centre was created thanks to an agreement forged between Loulé Câmara and the environmental interest group, Almargem.
Situated in a unique setting, in the middle of Beira Serra, the centre was created with the aim of responding to local necessities in terms of green education, integrated development, and promotion of cultural and environmental heritage of the Loulé area.
As in previous years, staff from the Câmara distributed free tree saplings (pine, carob, oak, cork and cypress) to the general public in Loulé at the Cerca do Convento Espírito Santo and in Quarteira, in Rua Vasco da Gama throughout the day.
