Loulé Council will celebrate Dia de Reis (Epiphany) by giving away free slices of a giant 150-metre long Bolo Rei, Portugal’s favourite festive cake, in front of the town hall at 5pm on January 6.
The cake will be baked by LouléDoce and the recipe is nothing short of impressive: 110kgs of flour, 22kgs of sugar, 1.6kgs of salt, 38 eggs, 14kgs of margarine, 50kgs of crystalised fruit, and 100kgs of decorative crystalised fruit, 50kgs of nuts, 2kgs of flavouring agents and 1.6kgs of yeast.
There will also be live music with performances by Charola das Barreiras Brancas and Charola da Banda Musical de Tavira, two groups that specialise in traditional New Year singing.
