A rare tape containing a recording of John Lennon while drunk has been put up for auction and is expected to sell for at least 25,000 pounds sterling.
The tape, recorded in 1973, has Lennon slurring into the microphone while making up rude lyrics to the Lloyd Price song Just Because.
Lennon is heard saying: “I wanna take all them new singers, Carol and that other one, I wanna take ‘em and hold ‘em tight, all them people that James Taylor had.”
Producer Phil Spector ended the session heard on the tape early because Lennon was too drunk to continue.
The auction house description of the tape in the catalogue says: “Although Lennon is intoxicated, because it is Lennon singing, it sounds decent.”
