Lose weight cycling and help a local charity

An Algarve resident and keen cyclist is organising a weight loss contest in January in aid of charity.

Paul Beesley from Activity Algarve, organisers of regular bike rides in the region, told the Algarve Resident: “Quite a few riders on our group use heart rate monitors, GPS tracking devices and all kinds of technology to monitor their ride performance. One of the consistently striking conclusions that my regulars have found is that a good bike ride can burn up to 2,000 calories or more and so can be a great way to help to lose weight.”

With this in mind, he decided that it would be fun to have a weight loss contest as well as helping raise money for the Centre Algarve project in Moncarapacho, which is building a hotel to provide holidays for special needs children.

The contest is open to all and participants don’t have to be regular bike riders with Paul Beesley’s group.

“All they have to do is attend one of the weigh ins and provide the entrance fee, then weigh out again at the end of January.”

Entrance fee is €20 and the first weighing in bike ride is on Sunday, January 2, at 10am at De Barra in Quinta Shopping, Quinta do Lago. All the proceeds will be donated to Centre Algarve.
