Vision is one of the most important means of communication we have with the environment around us, as about 80% of all the information we receive is obtained through it.
Our eyes deserve special attention, which is why Óptica Algarve recommends you do regular visits to your optician for early detection of any changes that require medical treatment and to measure visual acuity, as a way to prevent eye problems and complications.
In children, eye check-ups are essential. It’s estimated that about 5% to 10% of preschoolers and about 25% of all school-age children have some kind of visual impairment or problem. If not diagnosed at an early stage, these problems tend to develop (sometimes being irreversible) affecting a child’s learning capability, school integration and even social behaviour.
Vision problems can be prevented and the later they are detected, the worse its treatment prognosis is.
It is thus imperative for parents to be aware of their children’s vision development. Watch out for some of the telltale signs of vision abnormalities in your kids such as red or watery eyes; blinking or squinting when staring at something; rubbing their eyes frequently; tilting the head to see better, reading with their face too close to the books or watching TV to close to the screen; lack of attention or difficulty in concentrating and drowsiness. If you have any doubts or questions, just talk to Óptica Algarve’s opticians who can advise you and schedule your child’s eye check-up.
