Lagoa badminton star Pedro Martins remains on target for a place at this summer’s Olympic Games following a good performance at the European Championships in Sweden.
The 22-year-old Portuguese No1 reached the last 16 before being beaten 21-14, 21-14 by Danish world No25 Viktor Axelsen. Fellow Che Lagoense player Telma Santos was eliminated by first round opponent Line Kjaersfeldt as German Marc Zwibler and Sweden’s Tina Baun claimed the men’s and women’s continental titles. Santos and Martins will next be in action at this weekend’s Portuguese Open where the last mentioned top seed’s first round opponent is going to be Scotland’s Kieran Merrilles.
