Local eyesore finally removed

For more than 20 years, residents in Quinta das Salinas near Almancil have been campaigning to have an unfinished building located on plots one and two of the development removed and now finally the building, dubbed the “white bird” due to its unique appearance, is in the process of being demolished.

Eric Brown, a resident in the development since 1990 and a member of the Salinas Property Owners Association, told the Algarve Resident: “The building was originally intended to be a large villa but the owner has never completed it.

“For many years we have wanted this building either completed or removed as it is an eyesore and at first the owner told us he intended to complete it but recently he decided that he, too, wanted it demolished.”

He added: “The owner asked permission from Loulé Câmara to be able to demolish the building around two years ago and only now has had the green light to start the demolition work.”

Machinery is now on site to remove the local eyesore.

Eric Brown said: “We are all very pleased that this house is finally being removed and thank the owner for acting so quickly once permission was finally granted by the Câmara.”

A spokesman for Loulé Câmara told the Algarve Resident that they were aware of the case but at the time of the Algarve Resident going to press on Wednesday, no one was available to comment about the reasons behind the delays in granting demolition permission.
