A group of local volunteers are seeking more people to join their cause of helping the terminally and seriously ill in and around São Brás de Alportel, Estoi, Santa Catarina and Moncarapacho.
The group is named ‘Zeitspende’ (which translates into ‘Donating your time’) and comprises Monika Diete, Dorothea Walter and Marlis Weissenborn, who donate their time to provide assistance to people with serious conditions, especially members of the German-speaking community.
The charity offers a wide spectrum of support and services from keeping people company, having discussions, accompanying them to the café, going for walks or taking them to doctor appointments.
