The Portimão Arena was the venue for a gala sports evening honouring the municipality’s outstanding 2008/09 season athletes and coaches.
Among the many gold award recipients were national volleyball team captain Joao Jose, Portisub fishing champions Jody Lot and Carlos Osório, Clube Hipico Santa Isabel dressage maestro Manuel Machado, who led the Portuguese youth team to third place in the European Championships, and Downs Syndrome World Swimming Championships fourth-placed Filipe dos Santos.
