Local artist José Madeira unveils debut exhibition in Monchique

Algarve artist José Madeira will exhibit some of his works for the first time ever this weekend. His debut exhibition ‘Tinta sobre A Tinta’ is due to be inaugurated at Monchique’s Porca Preta art gallery at 3pm on Saturday (July 10).

The artist, originally from Nazaré but living in the Algarve since 1993, says his works are inspired by “surreal influences” – although they are not bound by any style in particular.

In his works, “characters ask questions, start conversations, tell stories or are just at that place at that time.”

The exhibition, which will remain on display until August 7, will also feature some of his abstract wooden sculptures.

Admission is free.
