Local artist Anke Punt to donate €760 to Alvor children’s home

German artist Anke Punt will donate €760 to Alvor children’s home Lar de Crianças Bom Samaritano following a successful exhibition held at Lagoa’s Convent’bio between January and February.

“It was a great experience to set up an exhibition like this during a time where a lot is not possible. I had lovely reaction and I am very happy that we sold some paintings,” Anke Punt told us.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from the six paintings that were sold will be going to the children’s home. The artist was due to donate the money on Thursday (after we went to press) to one of the home’s representatives.

Thirty-three paintings were exhibited, with “Nature Meets Art” acting as the overall theme.

“They are all mixed media with elements I found on the beach at Carvoeiro or Ferragudo,” Anke said.

Asked why she decided to donate half of the proceeds of her exhibition, the artist said: “I love children and love to help them to have a future.”

The choice of Lar de Crianças Bom Samaritano as the recipient was based on the positive feedback that Anke received from friends about the work that is carried out at the home.

Lar de Crianças Bom Samaritano takes in children aged five to 12 who were victims of abandonment or neglect. Its main goal is to provide children and youngsters with a base of support “as close as possible to a family structure” while still “respecting their individuality and privacy”.

Anke revealed that the children’s home is planning to use the money to help with its daily costs, which have increased with the lockdown as its children and youngsters spend more time at the home.

Meanwhile, the artist is planning to host more exhibitions in the future where she can “hopefully involve children” and is currently carrying out online art lessons for children.
