Liz Allen exhibits at Fine & Country Carvoeiro

On the evening of Friday December 6, around 50 guests attended festive drinks at the Carvoeiro offices of estate agents Fine & Country and an exhibition of paintings by Monchique-based British artist Liz Allen.

The night was a huge success, with members of the local business community and residents enjoying bubbly and Bolo Rei to the sound of Christmas music. The exhibition, comprising thirteen paintings, will remain on display at the mezzanine gallery of the Fine & Country office until the end of January.

Born in Kent, United Kingdom, Liz Allen studied at Bath Academy of Art from 1976-79, obtaining a degree in Fine Art painting.

After art college, Liz worked for 15 years including seven years working for the South Bank Centre and Hayward Gallery, then moved to Brighton where she started painting again, exhibiting work every May during the Brighton festival. In 2005, Liz moved to the Monchique area of the Algarve, and most of her current work is of the landscape and scenery of the Algarve, from rural landscape to town scenes.

Her paintings start with a cartoon-like drawing, a direct and spontaneous response to being in a place. Colour and pattern are the most important elements in the paintings, along with humour and a sense of the absurd.
