Local culture and products will be highlighted throughout the summer.
Starting this weekend, and until September 6, the Municipality of Castro Marim, in collaboration with the Parish Council of Altura, is resuming its «Summer Markets» and «Summer Entertainment» to promote and value local culture and products.
“With the arrival of many tourists during this season, Altura becomes the right place to make room for a strategy to enhance local culture and heritage”, considers the municipality.
The Mercadinhos (little markets), which take place every night, offer a display of the best local products and delicacies, such as honey, dried fruit and fleur de sel from Castro Marim, a wide variety of sweets, modern and traditional handicrafts, with weaving, basketwork or bobbin lace, and even horticultural products.
In parallel, and as part of the same local culture promotion strategy, the organisation is organising «Summer Entertainment», which features a selection of small concerts, almost always on Wednesdays, at 21:30, in the Leisure Area, next to the Avenida 24 de Junho.
Municipal officials say that “these initiatives, which combine tourism with heritage, are a good business opportunity for producers and artisans, as a way of selling their products, responding to the demand of visitors, who tend to increasingly look for what there is of identity and uniqueness in the territory».
