OPEN SINCE the beginning of February, Magna Carta bookshop is situated in the picturesque village of Alvor and stores a great collection of English books, ranging from the latest UK bestsellers to second-hand bargains, costing from as little as one euro.
This elegant bookshop mainly prides itself for its collection of well-known Portuguese authors translated into English, such as Eça de Queiroz, the poet Fernando Pessoa and Nobel Prize winner José Saramago.
Magna Carta offers up to 20 per cent back on books returned to the shop for resale, depending on their condition. The discount can either be used against a new purchase or accumulated until you have enough to take away a free book.
Magna Carta features weekly promotions on selected authors and it’s worth checking the website for the latest bargains at www.magna-carta.biz
Ordering books couldn’t be easier – you can order them by tel/fax 282 496 001, via the website, or by email at [email protected]. Bulk orders for hotels and resorts in the western Algarve are also welcome and delivery is free for hotels in the Alvor and Praia da Rocha areas.
As well as novels, biographies, children’s books and the successful new age collection, the shop also offers a wide range of English greetings cards and exquisite gifts, such as medieval quill pens complete with ink pots in various colours (gold, silver, black, blue and red), carved wooden boxes, oil burners, and much more.
When you purchase a book from Magna Carta, one per cent of all the book sales will go to the Association for Animal Protection in the Algarve (APAA).
