Lisbon’s first animal ambulance is prepped and ready for action.
The €70,000 investment came as a result of pressure from citizens, explains mayor Fernando Medina, who has explained that the ambulance is there for anyone who sees an animal needing emergency intervention on public roads or spaces, whether they are the owner, or simply a passer by.
All people have to do is contact one of the numbers on the side (808 203 232, or 218172300) and help will be on the way.
The idea is that first aid will be given ‘at the scene’, with the animal then transported to ‘Casa dos Animais’, one of the capital’s shelters, for further treatment.
This may be the first animal ambulance for the capital, but it is actually the second in Portugal. The first was inaugurated in nearby Oeiras almost two years ago (click here).
