Lisbon’s Cardinal Patriarch acts on four priests ‘outed’ by victims as pedophiles

With the tide of public opinion literally washing Portugal’s religious leaders in a direction that they initially said was anathema, Lisbon’s Cardinal Patriarch D. Manuel Clemente has ‘preventively withdrawn’ four priests from active service in the diocese as a result of victim statements given to the Independent Commission on the Study of Child Sexual Abuse within the Church. In a statement today, the Patriarchy has said there is one further priest with complaints against him still in active service, but he has been subjected to preventative measures.
