Lisbon winemakers target Africa

Winemakers in the Lisbon region aim to increase their exports to Angola and Mozambique this year.

A promotion campaign by the Comissão Vitivinicola da Região de Lisboa (CVR Lisboa) was launched at the beginning of this month and will continue for six months.

At present, 25 producers are exporting to Angola and five to Mozambique, and eight winemakers are lined up to travel to these countries this month for further promotional campaigns.

In 2012, the CVR Lisboa exported a total of almost one million bottles to Angola, corresponding to more than 682,000 litres, representing 25% of their annual export.

The promotion involves trips to both countries between July 1 and 6 and includes wine-tasting events in Luanda, capital of Angola, and a gastronomy/wine event in the residence of the Portuguese ambassador in Maputo, Mozambique.
