Blevins Franks, the leading tax and wealth management advisers to UK nationals living in Europe, are holding a major pan-European conference in Lisbon this month.
Over 60 partners, private client managers, regional managers and other advisers from the firm’s offices in the UK, France, Monaco, Spain, Cyprus, Malta and, of course, Portugal, will be attending the event between July 11 and 13, with the core of the conference taking place on July 12. Together with the firm’s directors and tax, investment and pension specialists, they will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing UK expatriates across Europe.
Experts from the company’s Tax Advisory Service, Investment and Pensions teams will look at the key issues in Portugal and elsewhere in terms of complex tax-efficient, strategic financial planning and the cross-border advice expatriates need. This includes how the new, intergenerational family office service that Blevins Franks has recently launched will benefit UK nationals living abroad.
Blevins Franks Chairman, John Stone, and Chief Executive, John Simmonds, will explore how, in today’s complex, fast changing wealth management world, specialist advisers are increasingly going to be valued in Portugal and across Europe. More than ever, local advisers will need a suite of specialist skills and expert support teams to help clients with detailed estate and inheritance planning to ensure family wealth is suitably (and tax-efficiently) passed to the next generations.
One of the key challenges they will be looking at is helping families in Europe and the UK to have connected strategic financial plans in place. These plans must cover all the cross-border implications and look ahead to later years when people may choose to move back to the UK through ill health or to spend more time with grandchildren.
This is the first such conference that Blevins Franks has held outside the UK since the day after the Brexit vote in 2016, when all its advisers met a specialist conference in Rome to digest the implications for UK nationals living in or moving to Europe.
Gavin Scott, Senior Partner in Portugal, said: “Our team here in Portugal is proud to host our company’s conference, the first one we’ve been able to hold for a few years due to the social restrictions. I know from experience just how valuable these face-to-face conferences are for our advisers, both for our newer members but also those of us who have been here for many years. The presentations are highly informative, but we also learn so much from each other over the round table discussions as well as during coffee and lunchbreaks. It’s the perfect opportunity to share ideas on how to improve the services we offer clients and give them peace of mind.”
Blevins Franks has been advising UK nationals living in Europe for over 45 years. Besides its offices in Portugal, it has 22 offices in Spain, France, Portugal, Cyprus, Monaco and Malta, as well as a strong base in the UK which is focused on the extended family but also clients returning to the UK, particularly in later life.
