Lisbon taxis hold ‘week of protest’ from April 29

Antral and FPT – two unions incorporating national taxi drivers – are holding a week of mourning in protest to the government’s continued lack of action against renegade service run by Uber, which continues to snatch business without any of the requisite licences. As taxi drivers explain, they just want Uber to comply with the law. As things are, Uber cabs undercut conventional vehicles, and are “ruining the national economy”.
The week ending on Friday, April 29 will be a “profound initiative” with “everything on the table”, said Antral’s president Florêncio Almeida. “We will stay on strike as long as it takes the government to assume a position.”
