Lisbon region nurses to strike on Thursday

Nurses of the Lisbon/ Vale do Tejo regional health administration (ARSLVT) will be on strike on Thursday, demanding wage increase and the hiring of more professionals, “including the effective linking of nurses with temporary contracts”. In a statement, Portuguese nurses’ union SEP accuses ARSLVT of inaction, a month after a public denunciation by the union of several “problems and injustices”, including the “unacceptable situation of around 150 temporary contract nurses, in the context of the pandemic , who are left out of the 152 vacancies in the recruitment tender”. Meantime in Porto today (see image), around 30 nurses have been protesting outside the city’s cancer hospital over ‘degradation of working conditions’.
