Lisbon pickpockets “only jailed on third conviction”

Three immigrants were identified three times for pickpocketing in Lisbon before ending up behind bars. Carrying the story, national tabloid Correio da Manhã suggests the capital is operating a form of pickpocket impunity. In this case, the men – aged between 21 and 34 – were only jailed after being caught, red-handed, stealing €500 from a female tourist. It was their third offence for pickpocketing in a month, said the paper.
