Lisbon offers quality of life

LISBON HAS risen six places in the global ranking for quality of life in the world’s main cities. The city now occupies 47th place, overtaking great cities such as New York, Milan and Seattle.

According to the annual Mercer Human Resource Consulting study ‘2007 Worldwide Quality of Living Survey’, Lisbon was one of the cities that registered most improvements in terms of quality of life, rising six places from 53rd position in 2006 to 47th position this year.

Zurich in Switzerland remained top of the list of cities with the best quality of life, followed by Geneva, Vancouver in Canada, and Vienna in Austria.

The study analysed 215 cities with the objective of helping governments and multinational companies in relocating, opening up branch offices abroad and sending staff abroad on international projects.

The data for the study was collected between September and November 2006 and is regularly updated. Each city is evaluated according to 39 criteria, including politics, economics, education, environment, health facilities, transport, housing, shopping areas and office prices.
