Lisbon mayor hires employee ‘sacked’ by predecessor as scapegoat for ‘Russiagate’

Lisbon mayor Carlos Moedas has shown his predecessor what leadership really is: it isn’t sacking the first person you can blame for disasters on your watch (which is exactly what Fernando Medina did in the dismal scandal dubbed ‘Russiagate’ click here). It is keeping them on, and taking the flak yourself – which is ultimately what happened to Medina, as the city voted him out of office in last year’s municipal elections, preferring the infinitely more chivalrous Carlos Moedas. The good news is that the long-term employee Medina sought to jettison into obscurity, is now back working at City Hall, in Carlos Moedas’ office.
