Lisbon Mayor forging ahead with plan to tax tourists

Despite the ribbing he received in Parliament from Economy Minister Pires de Lima last Friday, Lisbon Mayor António Costa is forging ahead with his plan to tax tourists who visit Lisbon.
From next year, every tourist visiting the city will be charged one euro, and from 2016, another euro will be levied on overnight stayers. Costa expects to raise as much as €16 million with these two “taxinhas” (little taxes).
