Lisbon hosts gastronomy congress with top chefs

Lisbon’s LX Factory will host the first edition of the Gastronomy Congress Lisboa on Monday, September 19.

Organised by the Estrella Damm beer company, the event will feature six top chefs who will try to reveal “the essence and the secrets of vanguard cooking”.

It will be the first time the event is held in Portugal, after successful initiatives in London and Miami.

The chefs will be leading showcooking demonstrations, presenting dishes both individually and as a team.

Kiko Martins will be the first to take the stage. The Portuguese chef, known for his work at d’A Cevicheira and d’O Talho, will present demonstration entitled ‘O Mundo em 80 Sabores’ (The World in 80 Flavours).

Up next is Catalonia’s Nandu Jubany, who together with his wife Anna Orte runs the Michelin-starred Can Jubany restaurant in Barcelona. His show will focus on ‘Neotradição’ (neotradition).

The third speaker will be Andoni Luis Aduriz, another Spanish chef whose Michelin starred Mugaritz restaurant was recently considered the seventh best in the world by British magazine Restaurant. His demonstration is entitled ‘Cozinha euclidiana’ (Euclidean cuisine).

Portuguese chef João Rodrigues, who leads the Michelin starred Feitoria restaurant in Lisbon, will be showing how to “combine Portuguese and Oriental traditions”, while Henrique Sá Pessoa from Lisbon’s Alma restaurant will focus on the current state of Iberian food.

Finally, Albert Adrià will bring the event to a close with a look into the “essence of creativity” in the kitchen.

There will also be a Q&A session with the chefs.

Though this is the first time the event will be held, organisers hope it will become an “annual event”.

The event is aimed at “professionals working in the food industry”.
