The 31st Lisbon half marathon, which runs through the city’s streets on Sunday, aims to beat world records for the distance and practice of sports in Portugal, which, organisers have warned, is a cause for concern. “More than an athletics event, it is a fingerprint of Lisbon. Not only in sports tourism, but also in leisure and, above all, in health,” Carlos Móia, president of the Marathon Club of Portugal, responsible for organising the race, told Lusa today, expressing concern nonetheless over a study by the Eurobarometer of Sport and Physical Activity, according to which 73% of the Portuguese do not exercise, the worst result of the European countries analysed. “It is something that should worry us,” he admitted… but not on Sunday!
