Lisbon city in New York Times’ places to visit

PRESTIGIOUS US newspaper the New York Times has put Lisbon among the top places to visit on the planet in 2008.

It came second place in a list of 53 destinations that also included faraway paradise island chains such as the Seychelles and Maldives.

In its on-line edition on December 11, the NYT stated that the Portuguese capital was not just popular because it was a cheap weekend getaway destination.

“Now Lisbon is starting to emerge as a cultural Mecca with the new modern art Berardo Collection, the museum district of Belem, its design hotels such as Jeronimos 8 and Fontana Park, and the new Museum of Design and Fashion scheduled to open in 2008.”

Lisbon was only overtaken by Laos, which occupied first place as the most trendy and avant-garde city in the world, which believed that the Indochinese city would be the next Asian hotspot after Vietnam and Cambodia.
