Lisbon City Hall approves hotel project for ancient convent

Convento das Mónicas, existing in Lisbon since the 16th century, is to be transformed into a 128-room hotel. Lisbon City Hall recently approved an application to change use to tourism, while opposition members complain this is just another example of how opportunities to redress the lack of affordable housing in the city are still being ignored. The convento is in one of the most ‘privileged areas’ of the parish of ‘Graça’ (renamed São Vicente).
